Send Dirt is a joint effort between MFR and non-profit organization Voice of the Wetlands to help restore and protect the Louisiana coast and the coastal wetlands. The marsh wetlands that make up the Louisiana coast serve as nature’s protection from heavy rain, storm surges and hurricanes.  The Louisiana wetlands are under growing threat from hurricanes that cause significant damage to an already weak environment, causing water pollution and high rates of land loss each year.  As the land erodes, coastal communities and wildlife are left unprotected from destructive and life-threatening storms.  Help restore and protect the wetlands by donating here to Send Dirt. Make a donation here to help recovery efforts on the U.S. Gulf Coast and Haiti following Hurricanes Gustav, Ike and all storms of the 2008 hurricane season. Four storms - Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike - have ravaged Haiti since mid-August, killing over 600 people and affecting hundreds of thousands more. At least 100,000 homes were inundated by surging waters in southeastern Texas as a result of Hurricane Ike, the city of Galveston and other coastal communities were devastated by floods. Recovery from these storms will be a long term effort.
